From Crewmember:

John Altfeltis, SMC (SW) USNR, Retired

If any one is interested, I have a 1967, USS Porterfield cruise book that I purchased on EBay if anyone should need an extra copy for children/grandchildren.   It is a solid black cover with a gold Porterfield Shield at the lower right corner.  The book is in almost mint condition.  I will sell it for what I paid for it, $75.00.  I was on the Porterfield on the 65/66 cruise, a year earlier.  I couldn't pass this one up in that I did not want it to sell to a non-crewmember.

If anyone is interested, they can e-mail me: downnwind@juno.com

I Need your Help

I am just starting to research my grandfather's service in the Navy in WWII. I'm interested in corresponding with any Porterfield sailors who remember him. His name is Carlton R. Todd and he served as COMDESRON 55 embarked on Porterfield from Jan - Nov '44.

Also, I would be interested in any advice on obtaining records from the Porterfield or DESRON 55 activities during 1944.

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,

Carlton Todd

If you have any information concerning the above request Please use the email address below.

Thank you,

Shipmate Needs Help

Fellow Shipmates:

I am a retired Reserve Captain in the Supply Corps. I served on the USS Porterfield from July - August 1965 as a 1st Class Midshipman. My records showing that I served on the ship have since disappeared. I now find that in order to be credited retirement points for this period I must furnish proof that I served on board. Does anyone have any old Deck Logs, Ship Logs or other information from that period which might show that I served on board during this time? It will be worth a free dinner in Hawaii at the Outrigger Canoe Club in Hawaii for anyone (and spouse/significant other) who can come up with my name on any ship records during this time. Of course you will have to pay for the trip over to Hawaii ( a minor inconvenience)!

Thanks shipmates for your help!

Aloha,
Victor H. Hemmy, Jr.

Would love to hear from anyone remembering my father, Grant Jensen.

He served from 1964-1968….from what I can find out. He was on the USS Porterfield.

I’m very interested in hearing any thing about him. I am his only daughter, and he passed away

In a car accident in 1990.
